February Supper Club
There was another Supper Club tonight. Emily, the hostess, welcomed us into her apartment and made a lovely spread. I forgot to take pictures during the dinner, though. We gathered around the TV half-watching the Oscars and talking about dresses and other such things. The dinner was Mardi Gras themed and there was jambalaya and red beans and rice and a fresh salad and asparagus and fun plates and...

Don't worry, everything's okay, I made cookies
I went to another go-to recipe. Chocolate Chip Cookies off the Trader Joe’s Whole Wheat Flour. And I added butterscotch.  One thing I wonder is how the amount the recipe says it makes is so different from how many I make? This happens less with cupcakes but on the recipe for these cookies it says it makes 2 dozen. Now, I TRIED, I really did. I scooped out HEAPING tablespoons but was weary...

Baking tip + my trouble with minis
Tip: If you don’t have enough batter to fill all the cupcakes in your baking pan, fill them halfway with water! Leaving them empty will cause your pan to warp and the water helps it all stay even. Don’t believe me? I heard this from a friend a while back but the internet agrees. Just be careful when you’re removing the tray from the oven! My constant trouble with making mini...

Unrelated to baking... My history with meat (a bit...
Today at school was my favorite lunch, Mexican lasagna. This made me happy because I was having an exhausting day prior to that and when the lunch is great it perks my mood up. I also especially happy to see my favorite Mexican inspired Italian dish because I think I’m going to give up meat again and I like to go out with a bang. (Not with steak or ribs or anything, I don’t care much...

Update on what I thought was a Whoopie Mess
I made these Whoopie Pies for Valentine’s Day to share with other teachers at my school. I thought they tasted off, and then I thought maybe they were okay. It turns out, THEY WERE GREAT. I think I didn’t know what they were supposed to taste like. Also, as usual, I tasted them a lot along the way so when they were finally done I was feeling sick with sugar. My co-worker pal, Chris,...

Okay, so they're not THAT bad.
I made Red Velvet Whoopie Pies, rather, that’s what I intended to make. I don’t know what to call them anymore because they don’t taste at all like whoopie pies. Heres the batter BEFORE the red die. At this point I thought the batter was tasting okay. Really sticky, though. I had no idea how much food coloring to put in, I knew it would get a lot darker once baked but I...

I'M ALWAYS LEARNING: Sometimes I make something,...
…It’s not burnt or disgusting, but there’s something about it that makes me feel like something’s not right. I don’t want to throw it out because that’s wasteful. So I will still bring it to work (usually) and say “it’s not my best” or “I made cookies but they’re not very good.” I was really excited about making a Red Velvet...

Caramel deLites Cupcakes (+recipe)
by NewtonBOKX and Jarrod Moiles, Executive Chef.  These were my second favorite at the Cookie Creations Event I went to (actually, it was really hard to choose). I liked them because they really thought about the cookie as a whole and thought about the flavors and used that to inspire a new dessert. Also, of course I love cupcakes. They didn’t get my vote because the topping was the only...

BLOGher
…my title is referencing the ad campaign right now for Girl Scouts that’s all over busses and things, at least in Boston. It’s pictures of girls doing things like rock climbing or camping or whatever and they say things like TEACHER (basically they’re combining inspiring words with the word her).  So maybe “BLOGher” doesn’t make any sense anyway, but...

Last night's cookies
I have been wanting to make Nutella cookies again, since the first time I made them they were a hit and I do love me some Nutella. And last weekend was World Nutella Day (who decides these things?), so I thought it would be an appropriate time to jump on that bandwagon. Also, I wanted to send a little something special in the mail to a friend of mine for Valentine’s Day. So timing was good...

Second batch: something different + cream cheese...
I somehow picked 2 VERY different tastes in cupcakes. #1 was Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cupcakes with Chocolate Glaze. Super sweet, made me take out my Almond Milk* Cupcakes #2 were Banana Cupcakes. Which lead me to a new discovery at the grocery store. A lot of cupcake recipes call for Buttermilk. Whenever I get it, (a lot things I buy are store brand, which I think I’ll talk about...

A night of cupcakes
There is a baby shower at school tomorrow for one of the faculty member’s and I volunteered to make cupcakes. When I signed up I specified that I would make something with cream cheese frosting and another kind. I asked the woman who we’re throwing the shower for (it’s not a surprise) what she liked. She said it didn’t matter what she preferred because she’s not going...

Q: when someone comments, do only you see it or does everyone else? And do you comment back?
