Paulette Macarons in Beverley Hills
Over my vacation I was in LA for just barely 4 days trying to do as much as possible and visit with as many people that I could in the short time I was there. I’d say I had a very successful, and very wonderful trip.  While there, Ellen, an old friend from my hometown (and a fellow dancer, back when we were dancers) contacted me and we met up for cupcakes and then she took me to the macaron...

Foodtruck + a cupcake (more from my funcation in...
I’ve mentioned it before, but in case you missed it, I LOVE FOODTRUCKS. I can’t pinpoint it but there’s something about eating food that came out of a vechicle that I just think is the greatest! If you get it, then you’re with me, and if you don’t get it, that’s okay too. Being on vacation in cities that are warm the whole year I saw myself foodtrucks aplenty....

Cupcakes in Austin: Sweets from vacation a little...
I was super excited to be in Austin and visit Hey Cupcake!. I heard about this food truck before and my friend Michelle sent me a picture of it a while back when she was visiting, which I posted back in December. It was one of my goals in Austin to go visit Hey Cupcake! for myself. The truck is super cute and simple and they have a good selection of cupcakes Kristin and I each got our own...

Easter Brunch in Austin with Kristin Alice and...
Today was my first Easter without parents. I was in Austin visiting a very dear friend of mine, whom I have known since I was 10. She decided to host a brunch for some of her friends who also weren’t doing the family thing this year and it turned out to be just great.  We decided to make quiches. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, but I’m not much of a cook. I am...

Coracakes' vacation comes to an end as she sits in...
…and is apparently also referring to herself in the third person.  Enough of that. Alas, my weeklong adventures to warmer climates, friend visits, texmex, fish tacos and sunshine come to an end. I’m not so bummed that I have a delay, but rather that I won’t be in Boston until past 1am and I have work tomorrow. The upside of sitting in an airport, by myself, without much to do is...

Results of gluten-free baking mixes
Long story short: The brownies weren’t even worth taking pictures of. None of us, Duncan, his friend Josh, or I, could swallow more then one bite. I didn’t even take a picture. The cookies on the other hand, were more bearable. Still a weird texture, Josh took a picture of himself poking them… …but dipped in hemp milk, they were kind of okay. I could handle eating more...

1. Gluten free 2. Out of the box = Not my kind of...
So yes, we baked, and I’m going to blog about it, but it wasn’t really my style. Not that I believe that all gluten-free sweets are an insult to baking, I just haven’t had many good ones. I mean, why skip the gluten unless you HAVE to, right? (I don’t mean to offend*) But Duncan can’t eat gluten, or it makes his body feel very icky, and this is new to him, so...

Greetings from (sort of) Sunny Los Angeles!
Hello all! What am I doing blogging, while I’m on vacation, in LA? you ask. Well I’m still sort of on Boston time and I wake up far earlier than my pal Duncan, who I am currently visiting, so I figured it wouldn’t be a great waste of my time to hit up the ol’ blog for a bit.  After a very full day of hiking in Griffith Park, eating breakfast burritos, fruit-in-a-bag and...

Fiore's Bakery
Last week I wrote my first “review.” It was the start of my new effort to go to more bakeries and try more things. Also, I’ve lived in Jamaica Plain for over a year and there’s so many lovely places to snack, eat, drink and be merry that I’d really like to explore more.  I pass Fiore’s Bakery a lot, I never knew what it looked like inside though. I was walking...

Saturday morning baking, and I'm on VACATION!
That’s right, I don’t have to set an alarm for over a week. ONE WHOLE WEEK. Before I go visit friends in Los Angeles and Austin I thought I’d get some baking in. Also, I didn’t feel like going anywhere this morning and I haven’t baked in a while so I figured it was a good time.  Originally I was going to make molasses cookies with crystallized ginger pieces with Matt...

Monumental Cupcakes (a sort-of mixed review)
This is my first review, bare with me. Oddly enough, as much as I LOVE cupcakes and have such a HUGE sweet tooth, I don’t often go out and treat myself to dessert. This is something that I would like to change as I want to learn more about what other places do with their baked goods and try to refine my own taste buds as well as see different presentations and flavor combinations (with...

Snicker-what?
I went to one of my favorite cafe’s the other day with my friend Heidi. The place is called Ula’s and they make my ALL TIME FAVORITE* sandwich with sweet potatoes and avacado and other yummy things, the combination is seriously perfect. The place is down the street from me and close to greenery so it’s nice to grab stuff there and go sit in the grass above the train tracks....

Bake therapy.
Last night I was feeling less-than-cheery and I knew baking was just the thing to pick me up. Yes, I bake my feelings out. Since I had snickerdoodles for the first time recently, I thought.. “that’s it, that’s what I’ll make!” I used my Flour book for the first time, which I was very nervous about because a lot of the recipes call for things I don’t have and...

I have a lot of stuff to do.
But I’m going to bake. Because I want to. Because it makes me happy. And work is crazy and I’m tired and there’s not enough time in the day, but I am making time for baking for my own darn wellness. And probably the wellness of those who are around me. My cranky face.

I just had a snickerdoodle for the first time.
I have been missing out. I think I will try to make them soon.
