An update/ramble (and maybe, but not necessarily, some baking related things)

Last week I was on vacation, and it was lovely. From January until a week ago, we don’t have any time off at my school, making it the longest semester of the year, so when April break comes, it’s quite a treat. This year, I decided to stay in Boston, and the weather could not have been more agreeable. Here is a goofy picture of Tyler and I sitting on a siamese bench (it’s like 2 backs put together).

Besides spending as much time as possible outside, we had a lot of great eats, looked at a lot of art, visited with friends, saw some shows, and caught up on some rest. I also took the week off from caffeine, and happily got to nap freely.

Before vacation, we had an art show at my school during our Open Class (parent’s visit for the day) and I took over the hallway in the basement (that’s where the art department is) and bought sparkling juices and we got plastic champagne glasses and played classical music. I was very proud.

What else… Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of The Submarines, OK Go, and the newest album from The Magnetic Fields. If you don’t know who they are, check them out. Or don’t. I’ve been seeing an occupational therapist for my right wrist, which is dumb and causes me pain often. I should do more strength training for my whole body because basically all my joints are loose and I’m going to keep having pain being active the way I am if I don’t make my muscles do more work. April is National Occupational Therapy month, it’s also Autism Awareness month, National Poetry month, and probably a bunch of other things.

I finished taking the Advanced Techniques in Baking class. It was great, but I want more. I haven’t baked at home in a while, but I did make carrot-cake cupcakes for school before Easter, and then I had a carrot-cake cupcake from a cupcake shop on Easter, and mine was much better. I put the carrots in my apron while pealing them.

..it was convenient. I will post about some of these things soon, maybe.

Oo oo oo! The coolest thing happened!!! (at least I think so) I met someone who recognized me from my blog, which came up on her tumblr radar a couple of years ago. Hey, forestfeet! She’s in a band with someone who I know from college, and she’s from Oregon and she had seen my blog even before ever knowing Lee (the mutual friend) and I totally freaked out because of how excited I was. I don’t have a ton of followers, but it’s cool to know people on the west coast are checkin me out.

Anything else? Hm, I’ve been really into Draw Something lately, but I have issues my phone. My hair is getting longer, which I’m glad about. I stopped working at the restaurant a while ago, because I was feeling tired all the time and wanted real weekends back. Improv stuff has also slowed down a bit, but I still feel busy all the time, only, I’m less tired and stressed out. Last week I got food poisoning for the first time. It was real yucky.

Still reading? No? Okay, I think that’s enough. Will share actual baking things soon.

love, cora

Ohman ohman! It was national cupcake day, and I didn’t even know it.

I’ll have to write this down or something.

In other news.. I have consumed entirely too much sugar as of late. Not that Christmas will slow anything down, but actually I’ve substituted cookies for meals. (More times than I wish to admit.) My package from my Tumblr Eat Up buddy was part of the reason, but there’s also been a lot of goodies being left in the teachers room from parents and I just can’t pass them up. Speaking of Tumblr Eat Up, it’s been really great participating. For those who don’t know it’s like a penpal baking share thing for bloggers… sort of. These lovely ladies collect names and addresses and then randomly re-dish and you send baked goods to someone, and receive baked goods from somebody else. It doesn’t sound safe, but I do not believe anybody has had problems. As much fun as it has been, getting goodies in the mail IS always quite a treat (no pun intended), I think for 2011 I am going to try something else. I think I would like to bake for my friends in other states monthly, or bi-monthly (that might be more practical). If I can get to the post office to mail something to a stranger, I sure can do it for a pal.
